Who are Host Families?

Our Host Families are individuals, couples and families from different backgrounds who have a spare room and want to support a young person. They do this by renting a bedroom to a young person who becomes their lodger and whom they support.

What does it mean to be a Host Family?

A Host Family offers young people accommodation and support to develop independent living skills.

The Host Family is involved in the decision of which young person they will host. They will initially help the young person to feel relaxed and support them to become familiar with their new surroundings, this might mean showing them where the local bus stops are or how to access the local shops.

Throughout the placement the Host Family will support the young person with independent living skills for example, showing them how to use a washing machine, teaching them some cooking skills or simply just being a listening ear!
